Multiple incidents of violence and vandalism were reported in parts of West Bengal during the early hours of voting in the second phase of the Assembly elections on Wednesday. The incidents occurred in several locations, including Howrah, Chapra, Shantipur, Nimtala, and Bhangar, according to police.
An EVM glitch reportedly triggered a clash in Howrah’s Bally suburb, resulting in CRPF personnel detaining two people.

In Chapra, a BJP polling agent was allegedly attacked by “miscreants linked to the ruling TMC” at booth number 53, according to party leaders.
A senior police officer stated that the injured person, identified as Mosharef Mir, was taken to a local hospital.
BJP candidate SaikatSarkar said the incident happened after the mock poll began. He claimed, “TMC supporters obstructed the BJP agent and hit him on the head, causing injury.” A complaint has been filed at the local police station, though the TMC denied the charges.

The injured person reported that 15 to 16 TMC supporters attacked him, with one person carrying a gun. He stated he was struck with a rod and collapsed on the ground.
In Shantipur, a BJP camp office in ward number 16 was found vandalized on Wednesday morning. Furniture was damaged, which created tension in the area, according to police. In Bhangar, South 24 Parganas district, there were claims that an ISF agent was blocked from entering a polling booth, leading to unrest.
ISF leader Arabul Islam said, “Agents’ forms are snatched, and they are being thrown out. Women are not being allowed to vote. We placed agents so that everyone can vote.”
