K Ponmudi, Tamil Nadu Forest Minister and senior DMK Minister landed in controversy for his speech at a public event, in which he made comments linking Hindu religious identities with sexual positions. In a viral video from the event, Ponmudi is heard announcing, “Women, please don’t misunderstand,” before narrating a funny story in which a man visits an employee, who then asks the man whether he’s a Shaivite or Vaishnavite.
In the anecdote, whilst the man doesn’t understand, she clarifies by asking whether he wears a pattai or a naamam. She then explains that if he’s a Shaivite, the position is “mendacity down,” and if Vaishnavite, the position is “standing up.”
Why DMK Minister Removed From Party Post
DMK MP Kanimozhi condemned the assertion by Ponmudi. In a post on X, she wrote, “Minister Ponmudi’s latest speech is unacceptable. Regardless of the reason for the speech, such vulgar feedback is condemnable.”
BJP Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai slammed the DMK over Minister Ponmudi’s debatable feedback, calling it the party’s popular political discourse. “Not just this Minister, the whole DMK atmosphere is vulgar, foul-mouthed, and uncouth. Hang your head in shame, Thiru @mkstalin, for leading such a disgraceful p.C.,” wrote Annamalai.
Vulgar Remarks of Hindu Tilak Cause controversy
After DMK Minister controversy, Actor and BJP chief Khushbu Sundar, in a post on X, tagged Chief Minister MK Stalin and requested, “Will you ever have the heart to throw him out of his chair and role? Or you and your party discover sadistic pleasures in insulting women and Hinduism?”
She also wondered if “the women in your family approve of these insults when they visit temples overtly.” Singer Chinmayi Sripaada called out Ponmudi for normalising such feedback in the name of jokes. “This is a shaggy dog story. The comic story is on us,” she wrote, including, “There has GOT to be some sort of a divinity or a Goddess or a God on the way to punish this.”
