An FIR filed against Karnataka BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal over his comments against Kannada actor Ranya Rao, who was arrested in a gold smuggling case in Bengaluru in advance this month. The FIR was filed at High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru. The case was filed by Akula Anuradha on behalf of Ranya Rao, alleging that Yatnal made sexist feedback against her, which amounted to defamation.

The case was registered under Section 79 (insulting the modesty of a female) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. Yatnal, an MLA from Bijapur City, made the crude feedback while as in search of strong action against the accused in the gold smuggling case. “She had gold throughout her body, hiding it wherever she had holes, and smuggled it in,” he said. When Ranya Rao was arrested
