A leader of the Samajwadi Party women’s wing was attacked in her home in Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh. Police have filed a case against five individuals, including relatives of a former local leader. The incident was recorded on CCTV and has prompted an investigation into how the violence occurred.
Samajwadi Party women leader Assaulted in her home
The victim, Gargi Patel, who serves as the district president of the women’s wing, said she was assaulted at her home in Madiya village on Thursday.
According to police and Patel’s testimony, Pyarelal Yadav, the former head of the Kashi Vidyapeeth block, visited her house for a meeting about a property business they were partners in. While Yadav was there, his wife, son, and daughter arrived at the house.
CTV shows physical fight
A conflict soon broke out between the two families and escalated into a physical fight. The CCTV footage shows the attackers dragging Patel by her hair and hitting her with kicks and punches. They also allegedly used a table during the assault. After initially leaving, Yadav’s family returned and started to attack her again.
As they left this time, they even attempted to assault Samajwadi Party leader. Patel was seen bleeding and suffered multiple injuries; she was later admitted for medical treatment. An older family member tried to step in and mediate, but he was threatened with violence if he interfered.
Patel said that the attackers burst into her home and started hitting her children before turning on her when she tried to help them. “They hit me with kicks, punches, a study table, and an iron rod,” she said. She also suggested that a financial disagreement related to their business partnership might have motivated the attack.
