Actor-politician Vijay leads the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) which made a remarkable debut by securing 108 seats in Tamil Nadu but did not achieve a majority. He is looking to speak with Congress, Left parties, and smaller groups to gather enough support for a coalition government. The halfway mark for a majority is 118.
TVK Reaches contact Congress to make Coalition Govt
Vijay plans to join forces with the Opposition bloc and may engage in discussions with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India, and the Indian Union Muslim League, in addition to Congress. An invite to these parties will sent soon, sources added.
As speculation grows about a possible TVK-Congress government, Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil informed media that the party will consider a well-thought-out and collective decision, prioritizing the interests of Tamil Nadu.
Coalition surprise DMK
In a significant upset, TVK handed a surprising defeat to DMK, with party leader and caretaker CM MK Stalin losing his Kolathur seat. The AIADMK came in a distant third, winning 47 seats. TVK’s victory marked the first time in over 30 years that the established Dravidian two-party system in Tamil Nadu clearly disrupted.
The AIADMK’s allies, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) won four seats, while the BJP and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) each secured one seat. The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) also won one seat.
