Two FIRs have been filed against Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak in Punjab days after he left the AAP and joined the BJP, sources told HT. It is not yet clear why the cases have been registered against the lawmaker, but government sources said they have been filed under non-bailable sections.
BJP switch: FIR against Sandeep Pathak
Amid reports of the FIRs on Saturday, Pathak was seen leaving his Delhi home. When approached with questions, the Rajya Sabha MP got into his car and drove away.
“Punjab Police is working to arrest the accused since FIRs have been filed under non-bailable sections,” government sources said.
Sandeep Pathak is one of seven RajyaSabha MPs who recently left the AAP for the BJP. Other leaders who made the switch include Raghav Chadha, Swati Maliwal, Rajinder Gupta, Vikramjit Sahney, Harbhajan Singh, and Ashok Mittal.
Political controversy occurs
Everyone except Maliwal represents Punjab, and their exit reduced the AAP’s Rajya Sabha count from 10 to three. This move dealt a significant blow to the party with just months left before elections in Punjab.
Are we seeing vendetta politics in Punjab? The cases against Sandeep Pathak came days after another former AAP leader, Rajinder Gupta, faced action in Punjab. Officials from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) raided Trident Group’s Dhaula unit, which Gupta founded.
“The team collected samples of discharged effluent, groundwater, and other relevant materials to ensure compliance with environmental safety standards,” a PPCB official said.
