On Monday, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that various locations in Prayagraj were not conforming to the main water quality for bathing with respect to the level of faecal coliform.

Faecal coliform bacteria are found in the intestines of warm-blooded animals and humans. They are used as indicators of potential contamination in water, and their presence shows that the water consists of harmful pathogens, such as parasites, viruses, or other bacteria. It originates from faecal matter or stool that is excreted from the intestines of animals and humans.
Yogi said, “Questions are raised about water quality. All the pipes and the drains in and around Sangam was taped. The water was released only after purification. The UP Pollution Control Board monitors the water to maintain its quality. According to today’s reports, the amount of BOD near Sangam is less than 3, and the Dissolved Oxygen is nearly around 8-9.”

CM Yogi said, “Sangam water is suitable not only for bathing but also for ‘Aachman’. The reason for the increased faecal coliform are many, like sewage leakage and animal waste, but its amount in Prayagraj is less than 2,500 MPN per 100 ml.” While UP CM Yogi alleged propaganda, He added further, “It means that the false campaign is to defame the Kumbh. The NGT has said that the faecal waste was less than 2000 MPN per 100 ml.”
