The BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board are heading for a showdown at next month’s ICC meeting. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi insists on personally handing over the Asia Cup trophy to India, as he is the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
BCCI headed for showdown in next months ICC meet
In his response to the BCCI and other ACC member countries, Naqvi said he willing to hold a ceremony on November 10. At this event, a representative from the BCCI and any available Indian team player can collect the trophy from him.
“The ACC trophy belongs to the Indian cricket team. It held in trust until a BCCI office holder, along with any available participating player, collect it from the ACC President,” Naqvi wrote. “This collection will be accompanied by much fanfare and coverage. We stick to established practices and avoid setting a precedent that undermines the spirit of the game we all love.”
Why tensions create between board and PCB
The ICC is led by former BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Naqvi’s reply followed the BCCI’s recent letter to the ACC regarding the Asia Cup trophy issue. It is supported by the boards of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
The response shows the level of mistrust and tension between the BCCI and PCB. “…in regard to the rest of your letter, slanderous as it straying from the values you mentioned, the office of the ACC President not engage in petty politics,” the response continued.
