Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a impressive 173 not out as India took charge on Day 1 of the second and final Test against the West Indies. They reached 318/2 in 90 overs at stumps at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday.
Jaiswal unbeaten 173 led India to 318-2 score
After winning the toss, Jaiswal and KL Rahul formed a steady 58-run partnership before Rahul was dismissed. He then teamed up with B Sai Sudharsan in a huge 193-run partnership. Sudharsan scored 87, marking his first Test fifty in India. He shifted gears after lunch and brought up his hundred with style.
The final session saw a slowdown in scoring, but India stayed in control. He reached 150 for the fifth time in his young Test career and looks ready for more on Day 2. Skipper Shubman Gill also stayed solid at 20, but was not out.

The third session started strongly as Jaiswal drove Roston Chase through cover for four. Sudharsan also struck a nice drive for another boundary off Chase. However, Sudharsan’s innings ended at 87 when he was trapped lbw by Jomel Warrican, who got the ball to spin in sharply from over the wicket. Sudharsan was caught in his crease again.
Jaiswal recorded his fifth score over 150 with a flick off his pads on his 224th ball. He raised his bat to acknowledge the cheers from teammates and fans. As the West Indies took the second new ball, Jaiswal and Gill remained cautious before returning to hit boundaries.
