Madurai airport filled with MS Dhoni fans as India’s legendary captain arrived in the city to open an international-standard cricket stadium on Thursday. A video showing the crowd gathering in large numbers and cheering for the former India captain appeared on social media. Dhoni responded to the enthusiastic welcome by waving at the fans.
The Velammal Educational Trust developed the stadium with support from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). Preparations already made at the stadium to make this historic occasion memorable.

Reports say the Velammal Cricket Stadium features world-class facilities. It includes a Centre of Excellence and a practice net center, highlighting the potential of the sport in the area. It took Rs 325 crore to finish the project that spans 11.5 acres near the Velammal Hospital on Chinthamani Ring Road. The stadium well-equipped with a drainage system, floodlights, and security. Currently, it has a capacity of 7,300, but there are plans to expand it to 20,000.
Player got special drone pilot training
Once operational, it will be Tamil Nadu’s second-largest stadium after Chepauk. If everything goes well during the inauguration, this venue may host Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) matches, Ranji Trophy games, and IPL events.
This development comes a day after MS Dhoni completed the DGCA Drone Pilot Certification program. The former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain undergoes training and received a drone pilot license from Garuda Aerospace. He is now qualified to fly drones.
