It keeps traditional outcomes like win, loss, tie, or draw, promising the depth of red-ball cricket along with the quick pace of the shorter format.

Unlike typical T20s that focus on speed and excitement, Test Twenty brings strategy back into short-form cricket. The match goes through four sessions of 20 overs each, with breaks in between for tactical changes. Organizers call it “Test match thinking in T20 time,” introducing patience, planning, and endurance into a format.
Legends behind the vision
The project has gained support from some of cricket’s most respected figures. The Advisory Board for Test Twenty includes AB de Villiers, Sir Clive Lloyd, Matthew Hayden, and Harbhajan Singh. These are four players who have each shaped significant periods in the sport. De Villiers said that the initiative is “innovation with intent,” offering the next generation “a new dream to chase and fans a new story to follow.”
Lloyd, who led the West Indies to their first World Cup title, noted that the game “has always adapted but never this thoughtfully,” describing Test Twenty as a revival of cricket’s artistry and rhythm infused with modern energy.
