Goa infamous “taxi mafia” is under fire again after a tourist shared they were charged Rs 800 for a 4 kms ride. The visitor pointed out ongoing issues with high fares and the faulty Goa Miles app. They noted that local taxi operators often block app-based services, harming the state’s reputation through unfair pricing and aggressive behavior.
Goa taxi driver charge Rs 800 for 4 kms
“What is wrong with the Goa taxi guys? Yesterday they wanted Rs 800 for four kilometres,” the user wrote in a Reddit post. They mentioned that one of the few cab apps hardly worked.
“The Goa Miles app never functions. You have to add money before searching. Once you add money, no drivers show up, and getting a refund takes eight business days. Goa is truly beautiful, but this is ruining India’s travel hub.”
Affect state reputation
As the post gained traction, social media users emphasized that problems with Goa taxi services were shaping how tourists view the state.
“Taxi associations set prices all over India, which allows drivers to relax most of the day while still making good money from just two or three trips,” said one user. Another noted, “If you have a flight during the day, use the KTC EV shuttle. But after 7:30 PM, you’re at their mercy.”
A third user commented, “Goa Miles is completely useless. The taxi guys don’t want Uber to operate. The best option is to befriend a local taxi driver, although he will likely charge extra, at least he’ll be available.”
