IndiGo confirmed the incident, stating that a passenger’s personal electronic device ignited after flight 6E 108 arrived from Hyderabad. The passengers were safely evacuated and taken to the terminal, a spokesperson said.

“On 5 May 2026, while IndiGo flight 6E 108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh was stopped after landing, an incident involving a customer’s personal electronic device catching fire was reported. To ensure safety, we evacuated the plane immediately, and all necessary authorities were informed at once.

Incident of Power Bank Fire in Seat Pocket

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reported that a power bank in the seat pocket of passenger 39C ignited.

“The aircraft stopped in the bay. The cabin crew used two fire extinguisher bottles to put out the fire. All six slides were then deployed to evacuate passengers. No injuries were reported,” the DGCA said.

Power banks can be a serious safety risk on planes because they have lithium batteries that can hold a large electrical charge.
