In an unusual response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dismissed a report claiming that the government is contemplating a tax on foreign travel. The report suggests a proposal to impose a tax or surcharge on foreign travel was being discussed at the highest levels of government.
Modi dismiss the Foreign Travel Tax claims
On Friday, PM Modi took to X to respond to the media outlet’s post, stating there was not even a hint of truth in the report. “This is totally false. Not an iota of truth in this. There is no question of putting such restrictions on foreign travel. We remain committed to improving Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living for our people,” the PM wrote.
Urge citizens to cut petrol, diesel and foreign exchange use
On Sunday, PM Modi called on citizens to help conserve petrol, diesel, and foreign exchange by using public transport. It limit unnecessary foreign travel, and avoiding non-essential gold purchases. “Today, the need of the hour is to use petrol, gas, diesel, and similar resources with restraint. We must use imported petroleum products only as needed. This will save foreign exchange and lessen the negative impact of war,” the PM said at an event in Telangana.
“Patriotism is not just about being willing to sacrifice one’s life on the border. In these times, it is about living responsibly and fulfilling our duties to the nation in our daily lives,” he said.
