At least 89 people have died across several districts of Uttar Pradesh after a powerful storm brought heavy rain, dust, and strong winds, officials said. The storm uprooted trees, damaged houses, disrupted traffic, and affected electricity and communication networks in multiple areas. Authorities are continuing relief and restoration work
89 died in Uttar Pradesh with powerful storms
According to district-specific reports, the death toll increased overnight from 27 to 89. The highest number of fatalities was in Prayagraj, where 21 people died. Sant Ravidas Nagar reported 14 deaths, Fatehpur had 11, and Mirzapur recorded 10 fatalities.
Unnao reported six deaths, and five people died in Badaun. Bareily and Pratapgarh each recorded four deaths, while Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Sonbhadra, and Sambhal reported two deaths each. Three people died in Sitapur. Additionally, Basti, Rae Bareily, and Shahjahanpur each had one death, raising the total to 89.
53 injured, storm brought heavy rain
At least 53 others are injured. In Prayagraj, 21 people died due to a severe dust storm and strong winds affecting multiple parts of Uttar Pradesh. Officials reported that seven people died in Handia, four in Phulpur, three in Soraon, and two in Meja. The storm caused significant damage in the Handia, Soraon, Phulpur, and Meja areas.
Strong winds uprooted several large trees across Prayagraj, and old trees fell on roads during the storm, hindering traffic.
