A blast at a China Fireworks Factory kills 21 people and injured more than 60 people. This incident has lead to massive rescue operation. Around 500 rescuers sent to incident place and evacuations took place in danger zones.
21 Killed in China Fireworks Factory explosion
The blast occurred at a workshop of the Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company in Liuyang, a major hub for firework production, as reported by Xinhua. Footage shared on Chinese social media showed thick white smoke billowing from the site.
The explosion’s impact shattered doors and windows in nearby villages. Residents reported debris, including large rocks, scattered across roads. Some villagers left the area due to safety concerns.
Massive Rescue Operation starts
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the China Fireworks Factory incident. He directed authorities to work harder to locate missing persons and treat the injured. He also urged stricter risk screening and hazard control in key industries, along with better public safety management to protect lives and property, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
China’s Ministry of Emergency Management sent a team to oversee rescue and relief efforts. Meanwhile, police in Liuyang have detained senior executives of the company as part of an ongoing investigation into the cause of the blast.
To prevent secondary explosions during rescue operations, firefighters are using water cannons to douse the site. Three rescue robots have also been deployed to aid in search efforts.
