Recently, the Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir reach Tehran with high-level delegation. His visit is part of Islamabad’s ongoing efforts to renew talks between Iran and USA after they fails to sign a peace agreement in Islamabad earlier.
Asim Munir land in Iran with Trump Peace Offer
The White House has indicated that diplomatic engagement with Tehran continues, and the next round of ceasefire talks will likely happen in Islamabad.
Munir and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi landed in Iran’s capital as part of the ongoing mediation efforts. Pakistan’s military shared a statement that included a photograph of Munir in military gear greeted by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Pakistan’s Mediator Role
Pakistan has become an important player in helping ease the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. Asim Munir, along with PM Shehbaz Sharif, is leading these mediation efforts. Islamabad has leveraged its strong ties with Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, the US, and China, to establish a communication channel between the warring parties.
Both Washington and Tehran, currently in a ceasefire that will expire next week, have recognized Islamabad’s role in trying to resolve the conflict, which has lasted seven weeks, caused many casualties, disrupted energy markets, and posed risks to global inflation.
Tehran has also noted that Islamabad has helped in communicating with Washington, even after the failed talks. “Since Sunday, when the Iranian delegation returned to Tehran, several messages exchanged through Pakistan,” said Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei.
