Indian nationals wishing to study in Canada can now access millions of dollars in scholarship rewards. It makes easier study pathways, and even hybrid campuses, thanks to a new talent strategy between the two countries.
Canada Unveils $100M Scholarship Program
On the morning of March 2, 2026, PM Mark Carney’s office released a statement about new measures they agreed upon, which includes
- 100 million dollars in funding from the University of Toronto. It offers up to 200 fully funded scholarships for Indian students in Canada.
- 13 new partnerships between Indian and Canadian universities to create more study and exchange opportunities.
- The launch of three new hybrid study locations in India
- An innovation campus as part of a collaboration between Dalhousie University and the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati, along with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Tirupati.
- The University of Toronto Center of Excellence and McGill University Center of Excellence, both aimed at directing Indian and Canadian talent toward research and development in Artificial Intelligence.
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between India and Canada held. It promote collaboration and exchanges among institutions in both countries in the performing arts and other creative industries.
A trend toward stronger education ties
The MOUs mentioned signed following the February 2026 visit by over 20 Canadian university presidents to India. It was Canada’s largest academic delegation to the country.
Taken together, the range and speed of these MOUs highlight the growing education ties between Canada and India. It shows a shift from occasional collaboration to more organized, longterm academic cooperation between universities and research partners in both countries.
