Unknown men are at work again in Pakistan. One of the masterminds behind the 2019 Pulwama attack, which killed over 40 CRPF personnel, was shot by unknown gunmen in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). Hamza Burhan, a Pulwama resident also known as ‘Doctor,’ was labeled a terrorist by the Union Home Ministry in 2022.

Burhan, whose real name is Arjumand Gulzar Dar, suffered multiple gunshot wounds after being attacked in Muzaffarabad by unidentified assailants. For those who have seen Dhurandhar, this situation feels strikingly familiar. In recent years, several designated terrorists have been killed in Pakistan and POK.
Who is Hamza Burhan?
Born in Kharbatpora in the Ratnipora area of Pulwama, Burhan went to Pakistan in 2017, claiming he was going to pursue higher studies. Instead, he joined the banned terror group Al-Badrand quickly became a commander.
He later returned to Kashmir, where he radicalized young people and indoctrinated them. In South Kashmir, Burhan expanded his reach from Pulwama to Shopian. Families across Pulwama have described how young men who met Burhan gradually became involved in militancy.
