Support Ebola Response Efforts
The Bundibugyo stress is one of six known species of the Ebola virus. It has caused periodic outbreaks in parts of Africa since it was first identified in Uganda in 2007.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), there are no approved drugs or vaccines for the stress caused by the Bundibugyo virus. Ebola is a severe and often deadly illness spread through direct contact with infected bodily fluids, contaminated materials, or infected animals. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and in severe cases, internal and external bleeding.
The virus can enter the human population when individuals come into close contact with the blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of infected animals. These can include fruit bats, chimpanzees, gorillas, monkeys, forest antelope, or porcupines that are sick or dead in the rainforest.
