‘Selective Targeting of India Is Unfair, Jaishankar Says in Poland

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski in New Delhi on Monday. They reviewed the growing India-Poland Strategic Partnership and discussed important regional and global issues.

While welcoming the Polish Deputy PM and his delegation, Dr. Jaishankar mentioned that this meeting happens during a time of significant global changes. He highlighted the need for countries in different regions to share their views. Although the bilateral relationship has grown steadily, it needs ongoing attention.

Jaishankar says, Selective Targeting of India Is Unfair

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that India and Poland have enjoyed warm relations historically. In recent years, this has included high-level political exchanges and increasing economic and cultural connections. The partnership upgraded to a Strategic Partnership after PM Modi visited Poland in August 2024.

Dr. Jaishankar mentioned that both sides would review the Action Plan for 2024-28, which aims to tap into the full potential of the Strategic Partnership. They are expected to discuss cooperation in various areas, including trade and investment, defense and security, clean technology, and digital innovation.

Will trade relations affects among both countries?

Focusing on economic relations, Dr. Jaishankar pointed out that Poland is one of India’s largest trading partners in Central Europe, with bilateral trade reaching about $ 7 billion. He noted that trade between the two countries has increased by nearly 200 % in the last decade. Indian investments in Poland have surpassed $ 3 billion, boosting job creation in Poland, while India’s robust economic growth and pro-investment policies provide significant chances for Polish businesses.

The two leaders also spoke about improving cultural and people-to-people exchanges. Dr. Jaishankar referred to the historical bond symbolized by the ‘Dobry Maharaj’ and mentioned his discussions with Polish youth through the Jamsaheb Memorial Youth Exchange Programme. He observed that Indology flourishes in Poland and that yoga widely practiced.
