US President Donald Trump has once again become a hot topic on social media, but this time it’s not about his speeches. Instead, it’s about a series of awkward moments during his official visit to Japan. A video of him looking confused during a ceremonial welcome in Tokyo has gone viral.
Trump lost during Japan’s ceremonial welcome
The video shows Trump standing next to Japan’s new Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, as they received a Guard of Honour on Tuesday. At first, Trump raised his hand to salute the guards but quickly lowered it, seeming to realize it wasn’t part of the protocol. Moments later, when the Japanese PM paused for the next step, he continued walking, apparently unaware of what was going on.
The Prime Minister, surprised by his move, stopped and then rushed to catch up with the American leader. The confusion didn’t end there. When one of the guards pointed him in the right direction toward the dais, he missed the signal and moved straight ahead.
People creating jokes on incident
It was only after PM Takaichi personally directed him that Trump turned and joined her, where they played the national anthems of both countries. This short clip has since spread widely on social media, with many users creating memes and jokes about the incident.
This isn’t the first time he has attracted attention for odd or confused public behavior. Recently, he incorrectly claimed that India gets a new prime minister every year. He also mixed up India and Iran while discussing trade tariffs and nuclear tensions.
