After being away for ten years, US President Donald Trump was returning to the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. Trump later admitted he had been getting ready to be especially sharp with the media. Then the shots fired.
Trump Rally Shooting: Key Details
The president, first lady, and vice president quickly moved to safety by Secret Service agents, along with other cabinet members. The shooter, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, had arrived at the Washington Hilton with three weapons: two handguns and a shotgun. He also had a plan, which he had written down.
In a manifesto sent to family members about ten minutes before he opened fire, Allen stated exactly who he planned to target. According to a New York Post report, the list started with the top officials of the Trump administration. However, one name was missing.
Immediate Security Response
“Administration officials (not including FBI Director Kash Patel): they are targets, prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest,” Allen wrote.
The reason Allen left FBI Director Kash Patel off his list is unclear.
The manifesto also explained Allen’s justification for the attack.
“Turning the other cheek is for when you yourself are oppressed. I’m not the person raped in a detention camp. I’m not the fisherman executed without trial. I’m not a school kid blown up, or a child starved, or a teenage girl abused by many criminals in this administration, he said.
