Police arrests looteri dulhan who fake 3 marriages for crores

Police term her the “looteri dulhan” or “looting bride” who was finally arrested after a 10-year spate of marrying unsuspecting men and extorting settlements of ₹1.25 crore. Seema, alias Nikki, targeted her victims through matrimonial websites, preying on divorced or widowed men.

Seema, a resident of Uttarakhand, started this alleged scam in 2013 by marrying a businessman from Agra. She soon filed court complaints against the man’s family and settled for ₹75 lakh.

In 2017, she did it once again by marrying a software engineer from Gurugram. This time, she wrangled ₹10 lakh from the guy in a similar settlement and parted ways.

Her latest victim was an entrepreneur from Jaipur, to whom she got married in February 2023. Seema did not settle this time. She stole ₹36 lakhs from the man, along with cash and jewelry, from his residence and ran. The Jaipur Police found her on a complaint made by the family.

It is now clear that Seema was scrounging matrimonial websites to source vulnerable men in multiple states. She has managed to escape detection all these years as she had married men from various places.

Police have termed her a deliberate operator who took advantage of legal frameworks and social loopholes to perpetuate her racket. She might have also targeted several others. The police are investigating more in this connection.

The arrest has brought relief to her victims, but at the same time, it has raised concerns about the safety and authenticity of online matrimonial services.
