Delhi Govt Offices remains closed on Feb 12 for 'Guru Ravidas Jayanti'

Delhi government release the official notice on Monday, and declare the public holiday on 12 feb on occasion of ‘Guru Ravidas Jayanti’. The government also mentioned in notice that restricted holiday on the Guru Ravidas Jayanti declared in November 2024 has been cancelled. So, this notice released to announce Delhi Govt Offices remains closed on Feb 12.  

General administration department issued notification, and state that, “The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi will declare holiday on 12 Feb on Wednesday. All the public schools and government offices will remain closed.

About ‘Guru Ravidas’: Announcement of Delhi Govt Offices remains closed on Feb 12

Ravidas was the Indian poet-saint who lived in the 15th and 16th centuries through poems and teachings. He advocates against social ills such as caste inequality and untouchability. Members of social ills such as caste inequality and untouchability celebrate his Jayanti.

His born place is Varanasi and promote human equality and devotion to God by humility and love. His followers, called as Ravidassia, place a focus on bhakti, or individual devotion to God, that does not need a priest. The Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred text of Sikhism, consists hymns of Ravidas. It is also said that his teachings shaped the views of later social reformers, called as Sikhism’s founder, Guru Nanak.

Key members joined the BJP

Guru Ravidas Janmotsav Committee president, Brahm Prakash Bulaki and several AAP and Congress workers joined BJP with before Delhi assembly elections. Speak to Guru Ravidas procession, Bulaki criticised Kejriwal government and say it failed to give basic development and education over decade, whereas he praised the Modi government to support backward sections. The committee conducts the annual Shri Guru Ravidas procession from the Red Fort to Karol Bagh, and announce Delhi Govt Offices remains closed on Feb 12.
