West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday said that his government would enforce a zero-tolerance policy against vandalism done in the name of religious slogans.
West Bengal CM take Strict Action Against Lawlessness
Adhikari sent a clear message against lawlessness. He said the state government will take strict legal action against those who attack police officers and damage public property.
The CM made these remarks a day after protests against recent bulldozer actions in Kolkata’s Tiljala escalated into violence. Demonstrators threw stones at police in the minority-dominated Park Circus area, injuring officers and damaging several vehicles. Police attributed the protests to administrative action against illegal structures.
Police Injured During Protests
After meeting with police personnel following the unrest, West Bengal CM Adhikari told the media that six officers and two CRPF soldiers were injured during the violence. “So far, 40 people have been arrested in connection with the incident,” he said.
