Punjab Police ASI arrested and dismissed from service, for running extortion racket in Batala

Recently, the assistant sub-inspector of the Punjab Police arrested and dismissed from service. The reason behind Punjab Police ASI arrested because he was running the extortion racket with his two US-based sons. Suhail Qasim Mir, Senior Superintendent of Police, Batala, said that the arrest led to the dismantling of a major extortion network linked to US-based gangster Gurdev Jassal. The officers seize over Rs 70 lakh, illegal firearms, and luxury vehicles.

Punjab Police ASI arrested, Named Surjit Singh

The arrested former cop, named as Surjit Singh confessed that he got the large amount of money from his son. After this, a team raid at his residence at Harnam Nagar, Batala, and seize Rs 76.32 lakh in cash from a concealed compartment.

“During technical investigation, the person who handed over money tracked and one Ankush was arrested who disclosed that amount he handed over ASI was money extorted by US-based Gurdev Jassal, SSP Mir said.”  On 4 Feb, associates of Jassal fired on a troll pump operated by a Kalanaur-based businessman. After threat calls and a demand of Rs 1 crore, the businessman paid 50 lakh on 11 Feb. According to the police investigation, Jassal’s gang used foreign numbers for threats and to coordinate payments and run the extortion rackets through multiple intermediaries.

Sadar Batala police station Starts Investigation on ASI

After Punjab Police ASI arrested, the station house officer of the Sadar Batala police station get intelligence regarding a local police officer’s involvement in extortion racket. An operation launched, and it led to the arrest of ASI. In investigation of case, it was founded that two sons of Singh were in touch with Jassal. While Jassal made threat calls to people, the founded extortion amount has handover to ASI. Singh has recently bought a brand-new Fortuner and two plots. He had dismissed from service under Article 311(2) of the Constitution.
