Top 10 Unnecessary Windows Programs You Should Uninstall

Unnecessary Windows Programs

Do you use the various Unnecessary Windows Programs software on your computer on a regular basis? You may be surprised at just how much unnecessary software you have installed on your system. The apps you’ll find on your computer are either outdated or bloatware, malicious software, or other garbage you should be able to get rid of.

Windows 10: How to Check Your Installed Programs

Windows 10 makes it easy to see what programs are installed on your system. Go to the Apps > Apps & features section of Settings. Your PC will display a list of all the programs that have been installed.

If you are using Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, click on the Start button and then click on Programs and Features. In the resulting window you can view all of the current software on your system.

If you want to uninstall a program, click on it and choose Uninstall. If the software requires a dialog box, it might not uninstall immediately or it might.

Unnecessary Windows Programs You Should Uninstall

Here are some common Unnecessary Windows Programs you should remove.

1. QuickTime

Video players are available from Apple, including QuickTime. The program is still available for macOS, but Microsoft no longer supports the Windows version.

Trend Micro announced a few critical security issues with QuickTime for Windows shortly after Apple announced the software would be deprecated. Having QuickTime installed no longer makes sense, since Apple will never patch them.

The removal of QuickTime should not affect iTunes, since it does not depend on it. You can replace QuickTime with VLC, which can play pretty much anything.

2. CCleaner

Ccleaner used to be a trusted Windows app for cleaning junk, but its reputation sank after it was acquired by Avast. In addition to forced updates without permission and data collection during restarts, the product itself distributed malware unknowingly.

3. Crappy PC Cleaners

Almost everyone has installed (or accidentally installed) a PC-cleaning program at some point. Most Registry cleaners do little to improve Windows’ performance, making them useless or even harmful. In your installed apps list, you should remove garbage such as MyCleanPC and PC Optimizer Pro.

4. uTorrent

A decade ago, torrent software regarded as the gold standard was uTorrent. In spite of this, it has had a number of issues over the years that make it untrustworthy now.

The interface of uTorrent includes advertisements as well as offers for other software tools, which is annoying. Rather than letting users know, the app bundled in cryptocurrency mining software in 2015, its worst offense. In the background, this wastes your system resources in order to make money for the company, which allegedly donates some to charity.

5. Adobe Flash

Once the standard for videos, games, and websites, Adobe Flash is now officially retired. A large part of this was due to its numerous inherent vulnerabilities, which made it a favorite among malware authors. Clearly, Adobe Flash doomed.

Is Flash still useful? The problem is that mobile content can’t be displayed using it on smartphones and tablets. Due to modern browsers’ inability to support this legacy program, most desktop users now switch to new GUI formats. It’s time to say goodbye to Flash, unless you’re nostalgic for old Flash games.

6. Windows 10 Bloatware

Windows 10 includes a fair amount of bloatware by default, whereas most Windows computers purchased off the shelf come with unwanted software preinstalled (known as “bloatware”). During the installation process, you’ll see nonsense like Candy Crush Saga and default apps like Money you may not need.

7. CyberLink PowerDVD

Formerly the premier media player for Windows and other systems, CyberLink PowerDVD has morphed into a heavy-duty bloatware program. Adware slideshows on steroids can feel like the whole experience. Impossible to completely uninstall PowerDVD since the residual software left behind. Therefore, you should learn how to remove this system bloat.

8. Microsoft Silverlight

With the launch of Microsoft Silverlight in 2007, it was intended to be an universal tool for creating rich web applications, like Adobe Flash. Today, you will notice a notice if you visit the official Silverlight page on the Microsoft Edge browser that it is no longer compatible. Clearly this program has become unusable.

While Silverlight can run in the now defunct Internet Explorer browser, Silverlight 5 will no longer useful and supported after October 2021.

9. All Toolbars and Junk Browser Extensions

In the case of uninstalling junk in your browser from Windows 10, it’s an obvious candidate. Toolbars, once a common problem, have thankfully been effectively eliminated from most modern browsers, including Chrome. Unfortunately, spammy extensions are still prevalent.

See if you have any toolbars installed on your computer, such as the Bing Bar, Google Toolbar, Ask Toolbar, Yahoo! Toolbar, or Babylon Toolbar. Uninstall them if you find any. Check your browsers’ installed extensions and add-ons.

10. Windows 10 Bloatware

Bloatware from manufacturers is annoying enough, but Microsoft includes a fair amount of its own in Windows 10. Store apps are a prime example. The majority of these programs are easy to uninstall.

Many of the default Modern apps, such as Xbox and Weather, are not useful to everyone. Others, like Candy Crush Saga, are unnecessary clutter.
