For the first time since 2015, a Bihar cabinet is taking shape without Nitish Kumar in charge. This change has fueled speculation about the team of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief minister Samrat Choudhary.
A senior leader from Janata Dal (United) confirmed that Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, has decided to join the government. He expected to take the oath during Thursday’s cabinet expansion.

Nishant, who had previously avoided any formal political role despite ongoing speculation about his future, has recently expressed his willingness to become more involved. Discussions are in progress to form an informal “core team” around him within the cabinet.
It is likely that one or two young JD(U) legislators promoted to ministerial positions to support the party’s leadership transition if he becomes active in party matters, said the leader, who requested to remain anonymous.
Another political leaders considered
Inside the JD(U) and BJP quota, younger candidates considered include Rahul Ranjan, Navin Kumar Mandal, Chetan Anand, Komal Singh, Rituraj Kumar, Atirek Kumar, Aditya Kumar, and Abhishek Anand.
The final decisions will become clear during the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, according to the JD(U) leader.
From the BJP quota, senior leaders such as Mangal Pandey, Neeraj Kumar Singh Babloo, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Shreyasi Singh, and Ram Kripal Yadav are being discussed.
