IND-W vs IRE-W: India becomes third team to cross 400-run mark in ODI cricket

IND-W vs IRE-W: History for India’s women’s cricket team was created in a recent ODI as the team went past 435 to become the third team to cross the 400-run mark, after New Zealand and Australia. This phenomenal inning not only gained them worldwide praise but also set a new highest total for India in ODIs, surpassing the previous record of 370 when playing the same opposition just three days before. This was quite a phenomenal achievement for Indian women’s players with their batting.

This is the fourth-highest total ever in women’s ODI history, with New Zealand having the top score of 491 for 4 against Ireland at Dublin in 2018. The Kiwi women also have the record of scoring 455 and 440 against Pakistan and Ireland women, respectively.

IND-W vs IRE-W: Indian Women Team Breaks Their Men’s Team Record in ODI Cricket

For Indian cricket, this means the women’s team has finally crossed the highest total achieved by the men’s team in ODIs, which is 418 runs scored against West Indies in 2011. It is an innings of sheer batting dominance that has been on display by the Indian women’s team. Notably, Australian women smashed 412 against Denmark back in 1997.

The innings were characterized by excellent hundreds from both openers. Pratika Rawal, playing only her second series for India, scored her first international hundred, converting it into a brilliant 154 off 129 balls. Her innings included 20 boundaries and a six, showing her aggressive and confident approach at the top of the order. This partnership was key to India’s record-breaking total.

Blistering Innings by Mandhana and Rawal Set the Bar High for India

Captain Smriti Mandhana, who stood in for the absent Harmanpreet Kaur, also had a brilliant outing, blasting a 70-ball century. She becomes the fastest Indian woman to have done so in ODIs. She continued to pound away to end up scoring 135 off just 80 balls, which consisted of 12 boundaries and seven sixes. The opening stand between Mandhana and Rawal contributed 233 runs. Notably, it is now the third-highest India partnership for women in ODIs, forming the base of the record total.

Richa Ghosh scored 59 off 42 balls. Tejal Hasabnis contributed 28, and Harleen Deol 15 at the end of the innings. The bowling of Ireland could not check the Indian batswomen, as they gave 29 extras that added to the total. The final score for India is 435 for 5 in 50 overs. It is a great achievement for women’s ODI cricket.
