India Women won the series with an unassailable 2-0 victory by 115 runs against the West Indies. This win came in the second ODI of the series played at the Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara, with Harleen Deol leading from the front after her blazing century that dominated the outing as the hosts asserted their lead over the West Indies women.
India Women won the toss and chose to bat and amassed a massive 358/5 in their allotted 50 overs. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal gave the foundation of the innings, hammering 110 runs before being separated. Mandhana herself made a brisk 53 off 47 balls before getting run out, while Rawal capitalized on the foundation well, making 76 off 86 balls, striking 10 boundaries and one six.
Harleen Deol was the star of the innings, as she anchored the middle overs and powered India in the latter stages with a magnificent 115 off 103 balls. Her innings were replete with 16 boundaries and showed impeccable timing and placement. Contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues (52 off 36) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (22 off 18) ensured India finished on a high note.
West Indies bowlers fail to stop India during second ODI
West Indies bowing could not hold them together, and their economy was the best that belonged to Karishma Ramharack, with 46 runs conceded from 10 overs. One wicket was picked up by Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Zaida James, and Qiana Joseph, but nothing to stop the flow of runs.
Chasing 359, West Indies Women stumbled to a poor start with three wickets falling inside the first 11 overs. Skipper Hayley Matthews ensured her side stayed in the game with a fighting 106 off 109 balls. Her innings, which were studded with 13 boundaries, were a real class in resilience and technique. She formed a critical 112-run partnership with Shemaine Campbelle (38 off 48) to stabilize the innings.
However, Indian bowlers were striking at regular intervals to derail the chase. Priya Mishra led the attack with figures of 3/49 while Deepti Sharma (2/40) and Titas Sadhu (2/42) provided strong support. Pratika Rawal also displayed her all-round prowess by picking up two key wickets, including the dismissal of Matthews, which sealed the fate of the West Indies.
West Indies were eventually bowled out for 243 in 46.2 overs, pretty short of the target.
Harleen Deol was declared Player of the Match for her superb century, which played a pivotal role in India’s victory. The final ODI of the series will be played on December 27, which will give West Indies an opportunity to salvage pride while India will look for a clean sweep.
