Punjab Kings have hired former India leg-spinner and experienced coach Sairaj Bahutule as their new spin bowling coach for the 2026 IPL season. The 52-year-old takes over from Sunil Joshi, who held the position from 2023 to 2025. Joshi is now expected to join the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, according to ESPNcricinfo.

Bahutule’s appointment is another strategic move in Punjab Kings’ coaching overhaul under head coach Ricky Ponting. The backroom team also includes Brad Haddin (assistant coach), James Hopes (fast bowling coach), and Trevor Gonsalves (assistant bowling coach).

Sairaj Bahutule’s career
Bahutule, who played two Tests and eight ODIs for India, and built a respected coaching career since retiring from professional cricket. He has worked as a spin coach and in support roles with various domestic teams. In the IPL, he most recently served as the spin bowling coach for Rajasthan Royals in 2025. He also part of India A’s support staff while at the National Cricket Academy and is well known for mentoring young spinners across formats.
