Rishabh Pant stepped down as the LSG captain after crew ended up at the bottom of the league standings in IPL 2026. He informed the franchise about his decision. LSG’s director of cricket, Tom Moody, announced this in a statement.
“Earlier, he approached the franchise with this request, and we have respectfully accepted it,” director said. “These decisions are never easy. We are thankful to him for everything he has contributed to this team as captain.”
Rishabh Pant Tenure Ends After Historic Signing
His time as captain of LSG ended after two seasons filled with high hopes but disappointing results. He signed for a record Rs 27 crore in 2025 and immediately became captain.
The crew finished the 7th and 10th under his leadership. His best innings, an unbeaten 118 in 2025, was an exception among other inconsistent performances.
Disputes Influenced Resignation
Reports indicate that Rishabh Pant choice to resign stemmed from ongoing tensions over decision-making within LSG’s leadership.
With a large coaching and advisory team that includes Justin Langer, Tom Moody, Lance Klusener, and Kane Williamson, Pant became frustrated with “too many voices” affecting on-field decisions. This conflict became public after a Super Over against KKR. Then his chosen batting order was changed, revealing a deeper rift between the captain and management.
