Shreyas Iyer is recovering steadily from his spleen injury and has been discharged from a hospital in Sydney, the Indian Cricket Board confirmed on Saturday, November 1. The middle-order batter was receiving treatment for a cut on his spleen. He will stay in Sydney for follow-up appointments before returning to India once he is cleared to fly.

The BCCI thanked Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for providing Iyer with excellent medical care. The board also confirmed that the cricketer had a minor surgery to repair the cut on his spleen.

BCCI’s Official Statement on Shreyas Iyer

“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025. This caused a cut on his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was quickly identified, and the bleeding was stopped right away after a minor procedure. He has received appropriate medical care,” the BCCI said.

“He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are happy with his progress, and he was discharged from the hospital today,” the statement added.

How does injury Happened

Shreyas Iyer got injured during the third ODI against Australia while trying to make a difficult catch to dismiss Alex Carey. As he sprinted back from the backward point region, he made an impressive diving catch but fell hard afterward. Known for his quickness and dedication in the field, Iyer landed awkwardly on his left side. He held onto the ball and seemed to be in immediate pain.

The Indian medical staff quickly helped him on the field before taking him for further evaluation. He was later admitted to a local hospital in Sydney for treatment.
