Delhi Leaders Ride Metro to Launch Fuel-Saving 'Metro Monday'

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the ‘Metro Monday’ initiative on Monday. This comes after PM Modi appeal for fuel conservation during the ongoing West Asia crisis.

To kick off the launch, Gupta took the Metro from Kashmere Gate to the ITO station. She then switched to an electric feeder bus to reach the Delhi Secretariat. Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Verma and Ravindra Indraj joined her for the commute.

Delhi CM launch ‘Metro Monday’

This initiative, part of the broader ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ campaign, aims to encourage public transport use and promote fuel conservation. On the campaign’s first day, many Delhi government ministers and senior officials traveled by Metro and other public transport services to get to their offices.

Gupta called on citizens to use public transport more often. She believes this initiative will help save fuel and cut down pollution levels in the national capital.

“I urge all citizens to use public transport as much as possible. This will not only help conserve fuel for the country but is also crucial for our Delhi,” CM said.

Enhance Metro and public transport

“Today, for ‘Metro Monday’, I, along with my fellow ministers, legislators, and officials, have made efforts to maximize the use of the Metro and public transport. It’s encouraging to see many people in Delhi choose to travel by Metro today. Together, let’s make Delhi even better,” she added.

Earlier, Gupta announced several administrative and public measures. These include a proposal for two days of work-from-home each week, a one-year freeze on official foreign visits, the ‘Metro Monday’ campaign, and an appeal for citizens to observe a weekly ‘No Vehicle Day’.
