The US Justice Department must release a long-awaited collection of Epstein Files related to convicted sex Traffickingcaseby December 19. This requirement comes from a new law that mandates disclosure of most unclassified materials connected to the case.
The deadline follows President Donald Trump’s signing of the Epstein Files Transparency Act on November 19. The bill received strong bipartisan support in Congress.
Thousands of Epstein Files release today
The law gives the Justice Department 30 days to make public records from the DOJ, FBI, and US attorneys’ offices regarding Epstein and his longtime partner Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year legal sentence for sex trafficking-related crimes.
While the Act does not state an exact release time, CNN has reported that the disclosure could happen at the last moment. They cite sources familiar with the process.
The delay is due to the large amount of material and the need for many redactions. According to reports, individual attorneys have been reviewing over 1,000 documents each since the Thanksgiving holiday.
What reveal in Sex Trafficking Case?
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told that the department will release “several thousand Epstein Files” on Friday, with more files to come in the following weeks.
“There’s a lot of eyes looking at these, and we want to ensure that when we do produce the materials, we are protecting every single victim,” Blanche said. He also added that no new charges are expected soon.
The Act allows for redactions to protect victims’ identities and personal or medical information. It also aims to prevent the release of child sexual abuse material.
